Heidis Helpers: Liechtensteins Aid To Ukraine "IndyWatch Feed War"

By Stijn Mitzer and Joost Oliemans

In the aftermath of the conflict that has gripped Ukraine since February 2022, Liechtenstein opened its borders and welcomed 437 Ukrainian refugees with open arms (on a population of 38,387). Recognising the urgent need for landmine clearance and safety in Ukraine's conflict-affected areas, Liechtenstein has also provided funding for demining efforts in Ukraine through the Swiss mine clearance organisation 'Fondation Suisse De Dminage' (FSD). [1] Liechtenstein's commitment goes beyond shelter, and its decision to adopt the EU's sanctions package against Russia and Belarus underscores its stance on upholding international norms. This proactive engagement showcases that being a microstate does not limit one's ability to offer meaningful support and make a positive impact on global issues.

The following list attempts to keep track of military and humanitarian aid given to Ukraine by the Principality of Liechtenstein during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The entries below are sorted by category. Private and corporate donations are not included in this list. This list will be updated as further support is declared.

EU state will order Russians to leave "IndyWatch Feed War"

RT | August 4, 2023

The government in Riga will send official notices next month to almost 6,000 Russian nationals, informing them they have 90 days to leave the country, a Latvian parliamentarian confirmed on Friday.

There are 5,000 to 6,000 of them. These are people who have not shown any desire, either to take the exam or to obtain a temporary residence permit. They are silent, Ingmars Lidaka, head of the parliamentary committee on citizenship and migration, told the Lithuanian state broadcaster LRT.

The Latvian Interior Ministry confirmed that the notices are currently being prepared, and will be sent out in September to around 6,000 recipients, according to the news agency Elta.

Last year, after the hostilities in Ukraine escalated, Riga imposed a requirement for Russian nationals who wish to reside in Latvia to take and pass a Latvian language test. Ethnic Russians make up about a quarter of the Baltic states 1.8 million residents, and have been denied Latvian citizenship since Riga declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Then-president Egils Levits argued last August that ethnic Russians suspected of disloyalty to Latvia should be isolated from society, citing the Ukraine conflict. However, back in 2021, Levits openly spoke of a plan to promote Latvianism in language and culture in order to make it dominant by 2030.

Last September, around 100 activists in Riga protested the upcoming education law which would eliminate Russian from all schools as a language genocide.

In January, Latvian authorities arrested Marat Kasem, editor-in-chief of Sputnik Lithuania, who had returned to visit his dying grandmother. Though a Latvian national, Kasem had been deported to Russia in 2019 because of his association with Sputnik.

Riga charged Kasem with espionage and held him imprisoned for four months, eventually agreeing to reduce the charges and impose a fine of 15,500 ($17,000). After the new Latvian president, Edgars Rinkevics, complained about the prosecutors leniency, the journalist left the country once again.

Below is the Mission Statement of the demonstration:

The danger of nuclear war has escalated to a point that no thoughtful person on the planet can ignore it any longer. Yet, in this atmosphere, there are still some who think there should be more weapons, more sanctions, and who think that a nuclear war can be won against Russia. It is very clear that those who have provoked the war, and continue to escalate it, do not care about the lives of the people of Ukraine or any other nation on the planet for that matter. This is NOT acceptable to those of us who care about the well-being of ALL of humanity those who do not wish to see the human race wiped off the face of the earth.

We, therefore, call on the citizens of the world to come together and raise our voices against this madness. Humanity For Peace is building a unified coalition, above ideologies, to stop this unfolding escalation towards nuclear war. We refuse to let humanity perish at the hands of insanity.

August 6 will be the 78th anniversary of the unnecessary and genocidal nuclear bombing of Hiroshima by the United States, which was followed days later by the same crime against Nagasaki. Humanity For Peace is proud to announce that on this occasion, August 6, 2023, an international rally will be held to remind the world that nuclear war should never be fought and can never be won. Humanity is better than that,...

There Are Enough Resources in the World to Fulfill Human Needs, But Not Enough Resources to Satisfy Capitalist Greed "IndyWatch Feed War"

Kurt Nahar (Suriname), Untitled 2369, 2008.

Kurt Nahar (Suriname), Untitled 2369, 2008.

On 20 July, the United Nations (UN) released a document called A New Agenda for Peace. In the opening section of the report, UN Secretary-General Antnio Guterres made some remarks that bear close reflection:

We are now at an inflection point. The post-Cold War period is over. A transition is under way to a new global order. While its contours remain to be defined, leaders around the world have referred to multipolarity as one of its defining traits. In this moment of transition, power dynamics have become increasingly fragmented as new poles of influence emerge, new economic blocs form and axes of contestation are redefined. There is greater competition among major powers and a loss of trust between the Global North and South. A number of States increasingly seek to enhance their strategic independence, while trying to manoeuvre across existing dividing lines. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and the war in Ukraine have hastened this process.

We are, he says, in a moment of transition. The world is moving away from the post-Cold War era, in which the United States and its close allies, Europe and Japan, (collectively known as the Triad) exerted their unipolar power over the rest of the world, to a new period that some refer to as multipolarity. The COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine accelerated developments that were already in motion before 2020. The gradual attrition of the Western bloc has led to contestation between the Triad and newly emerging powers. This contestation is most fierce in the Global South, where trust of the Global North is the weakest it has been in a generation. The poorer nations, in the current moment, are not looking to yoke themselves to either the fragile West or the emergent new powers but are seeking strategic independence. This assessment is largely correct, and the report is of great interest, but it is also weakened by its lack of specificity.

The Ukrainian nightmare "IndyWatch Feed World"

Little by little, accounts of the true toll of the US-NATO war against Russia on Ukraine's soldiers many forcefully conscripted are beginning to filter through the American media. On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal published an article describing levels of mass injury among Ukrainian troops that are horrendous. The article claimed that 50,000 or more Ukrainians have become amputees, citing data from Germany's Ottobock, the world's largest prosthetics manufacturer. As the article explains, this would put the level of amputations in the Ukraine war on par with those of major combatants in the First World War. The article reports, "67,000 Germans and 41,000 Britons had to have amputations during the course of World War I, when the procedure was often the only one available to prevent death."

Yurii Sheliazhenko Speaks on Being Prosecuted for Pacifism "IndyWatch Feed War"

Pacifists are not enemies, and all images of enemy are fictional

By Yurii Sheliazhenko, World BEYOND War, August 5, 2023

Dear friends, greetings from Kyiv. I will be very brief, time is limited and today in Kyiv there were two air raid alerts because of the Russian criminal war against Ukraine.

Our pacifist declaration entitled Peace Agenda for Ukraine and the World is, of course, a document totally opposite to any justification of Russian aggression, which is explicitly denounced in this document.

Problem is that hatred is a such sort of sickness that sick people think they are healthy and others, peace-loving people are sick.

Such distortion in perception of reality is a well-known part of conflict escalation mechanics, funnel of conflict.

Professor Friedrich Glasl, whose models I used to analyze escalation of conflict between Russia and Ukraine in academic article on which the declaration is based, wonderfully explains mechanics of escalation in his monograph Conflict Management (by the way, I am thankful to him for a letter of support).

To explain it shortly and popularly, hatred and animosity is like partial insanity of generally quite sane people.

People infected by animosity tend to think that they are healthy and those who are not hating their enemies are sick.

Animosity distorts their perception of reality, they see enemies everywhere like some insane people see evil ghosts.

So-called expert of the Security Service of Ukraine wrote that the next phrase justifies Russian aggression: A desire for peace is a natural need of every person, and its expression cannot justify a false association with a mythical enemy. It is general commonsensical observation, nobody will question it when we are talking about Putins war machine making enemies, foreign agents, from opponents of his criminal militarist regime, denigrating them in propaganda, repressing them. I never thought this general truth will be illustrated by my own example, but here it is, an innocent pacifist treated as enemy because of fictional and socially harmful character of any image of enemy.

My Peace Agenda was sent to President Zelensky, but his office chose to ask Security Service of Ukraine to persecute me as an enemy instead of considering the Peace Agenda on the merits and giving proper reply, as any democratic leader should treat petitions.

According to law, Security Service of Ukraine is directly subordinated to the President Zelensky and he also is a guarantor of human rights according to Constitution of Ukraine, so, he bears final responsibility for violation of my human rights (and I know for certain that I am not a sole victim).

The courts permission for search in my apartment is a collection of unfounded stereotypes of hatred hardly applicable to me.

During a year Security Service of Ukraine secretly s...

Russia's Putin signs 10% windfall tax law targeting excess profits of large Russian companies "IndyWatch Feed World"

President Vladimir Putin has signed a law introducing a windfall tax on excess profits of Russian companies, which was published on a government website on Friday. The law, passed by parliament last month, is aimed at raising 300 billion roubles and easing strain on the budget as Russia wages its war in Ukraine. Reuters reported exclusively on Friday that Russia had doubled its 2023 defence spending target to more than $100 billion, or a third of all public expenditure. Comment: The US spends $842 billion on defence. However, as its proxy war on Russia, via its vassal Ukraine shows, it's splitting that bill with the rest of NATO, not to mention the profits its allies are forfeiting in their adherence to the failing sanctions regime. The same seems to be true of the US war on China, as well as now on a number of pivoting African nations, whereby it intends to drag in their neighbours and trading partners into also paying for their provocations and containment agendas either directly...

Progress in Sri Lanka "IndyWatch Feed Economics"

for Sri Lanka, the only country in the region to default on its official debt amid the economic squeeze caused by the pandemic and the Ukraine war, these are sunny days.

Tourism revenue and remittances from Sri Lankan workers overseas have come roaring back. Inflation, which reached 70% last September, was back down to 6.3% in July. As a result, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has cut its benchmark interest rate by 4.5 percentage points since June

To win the IMFs support, Colombo took hard but much-needed steps to increase fuel and electricity prices as well as raise tax rates and extend the tax net. A new central bank governor raised benchmark interest rates by 8 percentage points over the course of 2022 to try to put a lid on inflation and bring a degree of macroeconomic stability

The IMF, which approved support for Colombo in March, estimates Sri Lankas current-account deficit will be around 1.5% of gross domestic product from this year onward. This would be a manageable and normal level for any developing country that is a net importer of fuel and food.

Desperation Creeps In "IndyWatch Feed World"

There is only one way to explain this shambles: Every one of these crises traces back to the Democratic Party's obsession with taking and holding power more or less indefinitely to suit its hubristic, end-of-history "narrative" of righteous liberal triumph. Poland rushes 1,000 troops to border, accuses Belarus of helicopter border violation but doesn't provide proof "IndyWatch Feed World"

Poland said on Tuesday it was rushing troops to its eastern border after accusing Belarus, Russia's closest ally, of violating its airspace with military helicopters. The Belarusian military denied any such violation and accused NATO member Poland, one of Ukraine's most fervent backers in its conflict with Russia, of making up the accusation to justify a buildup of its troops. Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko had earlier taunted Poland over the presence of Russian Wagner mercenaries near their joint border. Poland's Defence Ministry said it was sending "additional forces and resources, including combat helicopters". It said it had informed NATO of the border violation and Belarus' charge d'affaires had been summoned to provide an explanation.

Iran and Belarus Ramp Up Drone Production "IndyWatch Feed World"

Russia has compared the recent attack on Moscows financial district to 9/11 due to the civilian casualties. Both Ukraine and Russia have experienced mass civilian casualties due to drones supplied by both sides. China has come out to say it will limit drone production entirely. The risk of some high specification and high-performance civilian unmanned aerial vehicles being converted to military use is constantly increasing, the CCP stated. Meanwhile, Iran plans to build a drone factory in Belarus on behalf of Russia.

The Neocon center, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), first leaked plans for the project on August 1. Iran is pursuing the construction of drone factories in Belarus and Russia, which will help Russia acquire Iranian drones more readily and provide Iran with numerous economic and military benefits, the ISW stated. They state that authorities are looking to convert factories in Gomel, Belarus, into drone production facilities. They say it will alleviate the logistical problems of transporting drones from Iran directly. With Irans inflation sitting at 47.5%, the country is in dire need of economic support.

None of this is good news. Drone strikes against civilians will occur, as they always do. Both nations feel they are on the defense. Zelensky made it clear that peace was never an option. If you go to a Trump rally Biden locks you up as an insurrectionist, but no investigation of  Biden for unreported foreign payments "IndyWatch Feed Economics"

If you go to a Trump rally Biden locks you up as an insurrectionist, but no investigation of       Biden for unreported foreign payments

Rep. James Comer says six banks, including JP Morgan, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo, submitted over 170 suspicious activity reports to the Treasury Department regarding the Biden family, alleging their involvement in money laundering, human trafficking, and tax fraud. The American banks also raised concerns about wire transfers received by the Bidens from foreign state-owned entities, notably from the Chinese government, allegedly for the purpose of money laundering and tax evasion. The foreign wires were found to be directed towards Bidens business associates before being funneled through 20 shell companies associated with the Bidens. Subsequently, the funds were distributed among various Biden family members. SARs are vital documents that financial institutions must file with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) when they suspect any cases of money laundering or fraudulent activities. Rep. Comer highlighted one specific SAR linked to a $3 million wire from China to Bidens business partner, Rob Walker. This money was received in an inactive account that had maintained a $50,000 balance for ten years before the significant wire transaction from China. Within just 24 hours of receiving the wire, Walker initiated incremental payments to several Biden shell companies, eventually disbursing funds to four different Biden family members. Comer explained that concealing the source of money through the use of shell companies to deceive the IRS is considered money laundering and racketeering. He noted that if the funds were intended for legitimate purposes, they could have been wired directly to Hunter Biden, but instead, they were routed through business partners and various companies with no clear legitimate purpose. Senator Ted Cruz asked, So the Chinese Communist government was sending the money? Rep. Comer replied, Yes. If Hunter Biden was doing something legitimate for China, they could have just wired the money to Hunter Biden, but they didnt, he explained. They sent it to a company called Robinson Walker. Then they wired it to a company called Owasco. Then they wired it to another company called Bohai. These companies dont do anything with the money. Senator Cruz responded, Its just a bucket to pour the water in, then a bucket to pour it into somewhere else? Rep Comer said, Thats exactly what it is and it was organized. This is like organized crime. When the corporate media foolishly asks where is the evidence that the Bidens committed crimes? American banks have submitted hundreds of suspicious activity reports on the Biden family, alleging their involvement in human trafficking, money laundering, and tax fraud. Congressional investigators have obtained bank account records and wire transfer statements on twenty shell companies owned by the Bidens, which were allegedly used for laundering illegally obtained money from China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan as unregistered foreign agents. This evidence is supported by hundreds of thousands of emails, tens of thousands of text messages, photographs, audio recordings, calendar statements, and ten years of data from Hunter Bidens laptop, which the FBI took into its possession in 2019. @MarcoPolo501c3 published a comprehensive Report on the Biden Laptop, documenting 459 alleged crimes involving the Biden family and their associates, including 140 business crimes, 191 sex crimes, and 128 drug crimes. A $1,000 reward is offered for any verifiable corrections, but thus far, no crimes have been disputed. In addition, credible IRS whistleblowers have accused the Justice Department of obstructing the Hunter Biden investigation by blocking felony charges, search warrants, and interviews while preventing any investigation of the President and his family. Furthermore, just yesterday, a judge highlighted an unprecedented lenient deal offered by the Justice Department to Hunter Biden, which would result in no felony charges or jail time for tax fraud and lying on a gun form. PUTIN ISSUES STARK WARNING TO POLAND AND NATO "IndyWatch Feed Economics"

PUTIN ISSUES STARK WARNING TO POLAND AND NATO

Comment by PCR:

This report from Larry Johnson https://sonar21.com/putin-issues-stark-warning-to-poland-and-nato/ demonstrates that my often expressed concern about the ever widening conflict in Ukraine has been correct.  Putin is now confronted with a US/Polish plan for Poland to seize Western Ukraine.  This would bring Ukraine into NATO and defeat Putins goal of demilitarizing  Ukraine and maintaining Ukraine as an independent but neutral country.

It remains a mystery that Putin did not realize that a long drawn out conflict would provide Washington with opportunities to prevail.  Putin shows acceptance of Poland seizing western Ukraine as long as it does not threaten Belarus.  In other words, Ukraine will enter NATO as part of Poland.

Unless Putin can find the will to take Odessa, Kharkiv, and northeastern Ukraine, Poland will have a Black Sea base and missiles on Russias border, and Washington will have prevailed  at the expense of Ukraine and Russia.

Americas Deteriorating Economic Performance "IndyWatch Feed Economics"

Americas Deteriorating Economic Performance

Paul Craig Roberts

The US military/security complex and its numerous supporters in the House and Senate cant get enough of war.  The one they have going in Ukraine has denuded NATO members and the US of weapons and ammunition, thus creating a massive resupply market for US armaments manufacturers.  This is great profit news for the merchants of death, but it is a foolish policy to be warring with Russia when we are out of bullets.

Not content with our precarious position, Washington if fomenting war with China.  NATO is no longer limited to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.  It has been expanded to the South Asian Treaty Organization.

Michael Hudson, my sometime coauthor, tells us about it in The Looming War Against China  https://www.unz.com/mhudson/the-looming-war-against-china/ .  It is going to be a costly war for everyone, especially for the US as US manufacturing has been relocated in China.

One of the good things that jumps out of Hudsons article is that Washingtons wars on Russia and China have destroyed globalism.  Hudson notes that the world has divided into blocs:  America and its empire vs. the rest of the world.  Hudson emphasizes the cost and loss of efficiency of this breakup, but in my view the silver lining is that globalism is Washingtons mechanism for hegemony and keeping other countries under its thumb.  With the dollar as global money, Washington had no problem financing its huge trade and budget deficits. The breakup of globalism that Washington has caused is very much against Washingtons interest and permits the rise of a multi-polar world.

Hudsons analysis cannot be obtained from the Council on Foreign Relations or any think tank, or from the State Department, Pentagon, National Security Council, or from any university.  I recommend Hudsons analysis.  It will enhance your perception as events unfold, the meaning of which the media is incapable of explaining.

I have one cautionary note.  Hudson makes a mistake that he often makes.  In this case it is a purely gratuitous mistake as it has no relation to the points he makes.  As I have corrected him many times, this time I will do so publicly.

Hudson associates the cause of American de-industrialization and the rise of the financialized economy with Ronald Reagans tax cuts for the wealthy.  That is the way I read his sentence: The United States has suffered an equally devastating shift of wealth and income to the Finance, Insurance and Real Estate (FIRE) sectors in the wake of Ronald Reagans tax cuts for the wealthy, anti-government deregulation, Bill Clintons Third Way takeover by Wall Street. I categorically reject that supply-side economics had anything to do with promoting predatory financialization and de-industrialization.

The purpose of the Reagan reduction in marginal income tax rates was to employ a supply-side approach to the problem of stagflationthe worsening trade-offs between inflation and employment, not to cut taxes for the rich.  Demand-side approaches had failed.  A few of us had a supply-side solution, and President Reagan and Congress agreed to give it a chance.  It certainly worked.  The Phillips Curve and worsening tradeoffs between employm...
